Construction Continues

Progress on the pool has slowed a little now that the specialists are starting their jobs.  It has now been rendered and the tilers are starting to do their stuff.

James Joins the Jets

James had his first formal run with his new football team today.  He had joined the Jets and today was a practice match.
By the look of the play today, he has really stepped up a number of levels.
He is now in a team with a full complement of players, many of whom are very good.  The team is attentive to their coach and disciplined in their play so James should learn a lot this year.

School Fair

It was a big day yesterday.  Apart from a couple of basketball grand finals, the local school fair ran for the afternoon and evening.  Plenty of rides and far too much sugar seemed to be the order of the day!
Cooper and Sophie had a ball and both loved the giant slide.

Grand Final Win For James

Friends and family were on hand to witness another tightly fought game for the Under 12 Grand Final yesterday.  Half the opposition seemed to be close to 6 feet tall.  We wondered if our boys would have to run between their legs!
The boys ran out winners by 4 points but it was anyone's game up until the last minute.  I think a few parents would have headed home after the match for a cup of tea and a good lie down!
James is always happy to add another trophy, particularly for a Grand Final win.

Grand Final Win for Pat

After a great season, Pat's team took the final step and won the Grand Final yesterday.
After previous convincing wins, yesterday's game was a cliff hanger up to the last but a win is a win.  The boys came away happy and the spectators were reaching for the Valium!
Pat was quite happy to add another trophy to his stock.

Jack's First Season Ends

Jack played his final basketball game for the season yesterday.  They call it Biddyball and play with special rules but the boys are developing their ball handling and basketball skills.
They all appear to be having a lot of fun as they learn.  They all received their metals to signify the end of the season.  Jack and his mate Jack P are showing off their medals for the final team photos.

Win in the Semis for James

James' Team was in the semi final this week and in the initial stages, it looked like it would be an even contest.
The opposition (Knights) had more tall players and some looked like they were pretty handy around the goals. Midway through the first half they were neck and neck.
It looked like it would be quite a tussle. While the scores mounted so did the fouls and our boys managed to hit the maximum in both halves.
However the boys hit their straps in the second half and pulled away.  To the frustration of the Knights' coach (and my amusement) the opposition seemed to lose their game plan and our boys ran free to be clear winners 40 to 21.  Good luck next week James!

Lachlan Visits

Lachlan came to visit and do a little building.
We like towers and building fences so that the dinosaurs are well contained!

Dinner

To mark the end of a long weekend the team met up for a lamb roast and apple clafouti.  It all went down very well with the assembled company with some of the younger members coming back for thirds!  With one of the top carnivores away in the UK, the roast provided sufficient protein for all.

We Found It!

After about 10 years of wondering what Painkalac Reservoir looked like, we finally found it.  After consulting Google an Bing Maps (both wrong) we checked the satellite images to find the track in.  It was an extended walk but we finally made it down to the reservoir.

A Day On the Coast

After a quiet night we spent a day attempting to see the Painkalac Reservoir and touring the Surf Coast.  Getting to the reservoir was made difficult by poor maps and closed roads. We did find the dam but could not find the way down to it. We will have another go tomorrow.
Down at the beach the tide was as low as we have ever seen it,
Then we had a final look at Eagle Rock.  Apparently it is a remnant of an old volcano that was active approximately 29 million years ago.

Visiting Aireys

We came down to Aireys Inlet for a last visit and to clean out our stuff before the handover to Pete and Jill.  It has been a warm day and a very mellow evening so the lighthouse took on an ethereal look at sunset.

Vikings defeat Eltham

Patrick's Vikings were up against Eltham today in the first semi final.  Things looked to be tight early in the match but the Vikings came home winners 31 to 22.  Now a Grand Final?

Jack Goals!

Jack plays Biddy Ball on Friday nights.  They are a beginner team so goals have been a little thin on the ground but tonight, Jack got their first (and only) goal.
He is starting to develop the basic skills and is focusing on the ball and learning to sneak it from the opposition.
Tonight Jack's team was outgunned by a taller (see below) and experienced opposition. Maybe next week will see a better result as they are improving rapidly.  Great game Jack!
