Wow - That Was Close!

Sophie's team finished fourth on the ladder and so today it was fourth playing first. It was a fantastic game with the girls falling behind and then surging as they approached the finish.  In the end they lost by only 3 points.  Sophie maintained her intensity throughout the game as the photos show. It is on these occasions that Grandparents are advised to keep their heart medication up to date.

Mitchell's Achievement Celebrated

Mitchell had a good Year 11 in academic terms.  The school recognised his achievement by naming him as a Scholar of the School and presenting him with a certificate and badge at assembly.  It joins his Drama and Prefect badges.

Glenlyon Store

There are some wonderful old buildings in the central goldfields area of Victoria. I was particularly taken with the old Glenlyon Store.  It seemed worth playing with the photo a little.

Bellinzona - Bush Resort

We stayed in the "Bellinzona Resort" at Hepburn Springs.  It was clearly a very grand guest house in its time and is currently in the process of reinvention.

It was all grand entries and wide corridors with well maintained new furniture from yesteryear.

It had spacious grounds and grand vistas over the surrounding hills.

All very comfortable and accommodating even if the floorboards creaked like crazy!

Hepburn Springs

What a great day!  For Claire’s birthday today, we used the Voucher the family gave us for our 50th wedding anniversary for a night away at Hepburn Springs.
It is not exactly a vibrant village, more quaint and friendly.  It’s heyday is well passed and it is now trying to adapt to the changing times.  The only place we could get lunch was the general store.

We spent time in the surrounds taking in the local attractions around Daylesford.

Of course we also had to check out the mineral water of the area.

I have to say I enjoyed the local brew far more than the mineral water.

The evening meal was excellent and we now look forward to the full breakfast experience.

We Must Be Getting Old!

Twenty five years ago, we organised a twenty five year anniversary reunion of our old youth group.  We have been catching up every year at the same time for the past 25 years. Sunday was the day and, in effect, our 50 year anniversary.
I took the photos at the 25 year anniversary and Terry still has them filed away!

 There is the minimum of organisation but we all enjoy the opportunity for our annual catch up.  It has to be said that as we all get older and more experienced in the kitchen, the shared food is also a good reason to attend.

Dinner Time

Lisa, Mark and the boys came over for a casual dinner on Saturday.  The pre-dinner entertainment was to have been a little drone flying.  Unfortunately the batteries were nearly flat so we only had a bout 15 seconds of flying time.

Pipped At The Post

Jack and his team went down in the last few minutes of a hard fought game on Saturday.  It was a warm day and their complexions at the end of the game showed that they had all been working hard!

Basketball Cooper

Cooper and his team had a good win on Saturday playing in the Black Hole of Calcutta. Once he has the ball Coops can really turn on the speed.

Front Garden

There is nothing like a little rain and warmth to kick the front garden along.

Kate's Birthday Finale

We played out the final chapter of Kate's Birthday last night with dinner at one of her favourite restaurants, Di Palmas in Kew.  It was great service and great food in a well established Italian restaurant, making it a wonderful night.

Sophie Fires Up

We saw Sophie play for the first time this season. They only had one on the bench and the other team had a number of tall players.  Once again teamwork and skill shone through as Sophie and the Vikings dominated the game to the point that the "Mercy Rule" was being invoked.  Sophie played a great game and scored about 12 points.

 The Cheer Squad were very happy with the result!

Camping Beckons

As we get settled in the house we are starting to plan our camping trips.  An essential part of that planning reached fruition today with the arrival of a new coffee maker.  Testing went well so we are now well placed for our first trip away in the van for about 18 months.

Lachlan - the Winner

Lachlan had been looking forward to the swimming sports.  Unfortunately he had a bad run with asthma over the last few days and was annoyed that this may prevent him from swimming. He was not in great shape today but his determination was firmly in place as he won his freestyle event.

Normal Services Resume

The holidays are now a fading memory. The year has started and school is back in session as is weekend sport.  We watched Holly play today.  The team had no reserves so all the girls had to work hard for the full game. It showed a little at the end as they just lost the hard fought game.

Backyard Blitz

A little heat and water does wonders for the new plants in the backyard.  We are gradually losing the look of a building site.
