Whitefriars v Glen Eira

The crowds assembled for the epic clash between Whitefriars and Glen Eira today.  Numbers were significantly boosted as Graeme was visiting from Sydney and came to watch the game. The dog helped too.

The highlight reel was a bit thin as Glen Eira played for their first win of the season over Whitefriars.  James played well but the team would probably benefit from a more dedicated approach to training.
Tired but happy is good at the end of the game but a win would have been nice!

Lachlan's Cross Country

For his last year in primary school, Lachlan was determined to improve his result in the Cross Country Run.  The last couple of years he had come in 9th but this year he had been doing training before school.  As usual he was off to a good steady start.

The spectators had time to speculate on performance as the runners pounded the streets. Lachlan came in early and had to complete a lap of the oval.
His Fan Club was not disappointed as he came home in 6th place.  The work he had done had paid off.

Gallery Update

Granny's Gallery is now up to date. James called over yesterday so we could get a photo for his 20th.  This is the one.

Birthday Photos

Cooper recently turned 14 and Lachlan turned 12 so Granny's Gallery needed an update. These are the new photos.

Lachlan's Room

There is currently a concentrated effort to complete Lachlan's room.  The plastering has been done and undercoat about to be applied.  The internals of the cupboard are also ready to be installed so it should not be long before the house returns to normal.

New Camper

Mark and Lisa managed to get a car top camper for a very good price.  This will be put to use for camping and for times when Mark is up working on the Lake House.

It was tested out by Lachlan and Mark.  Lachlan gave it the thumbs up apart from Mark's snoring!

Whitefriars V Chadstone

James and the Whitefriars team were up against it today as they met Chadstone.  There were some big boys in that team but I couldn't find the Maccas Logo on their gear.

They had a good range of skills including the arm around the neck and the ankle grab.
As usual, James took on the job flat out.
Granny had to take more notice of the play today as she was the one picked to do the votes for the best players. She handed in her homework at the end of the game.

Another Birthday Lunch

Arranging Birthday Lunches is becoming more problematic as we try to find slots around social commitments and work.  School holidays give us our best chance so today we were able to catch up with Lachlan, Cooper and Jack for Lachlan and Cooper's birthday lunch.  The preferred venue was "Hunky Dory".  We had eaten (gorged?) there before and they did not disappoint on this occasion either.

Birthday Lunch

Yes, it is a little late but we managed to find a time between school, work and other commitments to fit in a birthday brunch for Mitchell and Ebony.  We returned to the Dark Horse in Mitcham that always turns on good food.  A sleepy afternoon may follow!

Lunch (With a Twist)

To celebrate their exit from Covid isolation, Lisa, Mark and the boys came over for lunch.  We decided to try lunch on the deck.  It turned out to be a good idea as the weather was perfect.

At the back of a cupboard, Lisa had found a year 2000 Sav. Blanc from Canberra. The winery is still operating. The bottle was cork sealed and it looked OK however the bottom of the cork collapsed on opening.  It was interesting to see the really old style label design.
When poured it was a honey colour and unfortunately was undrinkable.
Fortunately, the sparkling and the Wynns 2010 Cab Sav came up trumps with the roast.  We followed with Apple Roly Poly and a few rounds of Rickety Kate to finish a relaxed afternoon.

Ebony's Eighteenth Portrait

Ebony dropped over so we could get her photo for Granny's Gallery for her eighteenth birthday.  We loved last years portrait so  we hoped this one would be as good.  We were not disappointed.

Nice In Noosa

Adam, Kate and family braved the confused and disorganised airline industry to suffer for a day getting to Noosa for a few days.  Compensation was a holiday suite with a view like this.

For all their suffering, they seem to be enjoying the break.

The Guardians

While Adam, Kate and family are dealing with the idiosyncrasies of the post-covid airline industry on their way to Noosa, the dogs were left to guard the property.  It's a task they are happy to perform. As long as the food keeps coming, they are happy.  Rosie is showing her age and looking fragile but the others are full of bounce.

They all know that treats are handed out at the end of the visit so they hang around!

Time Marches On

Out of the blue, Claire received an invitation to an 80th birthday celebration from a work colleague she had not seen for 27 years.  Joy Vogt had changed little with the exception of a dash of added grey, and she was still sharp.

James Starts with Whitefriars

James did his pre-season training with the Mitcham Tigers but after an administrative  debacle, he was told he could not play with them so he moved to Whitefriars.  He played with them for the first time today against Melbourne High, winning 45 to 36.

James was on all day apart from half a quarter when he was off with a corked thigh.

Jack's Basketball Final

After a walkover last week, Jack and his team were in the grand final this week.  The teams were evenly matched to the extent they finished in a draw.  This meant another five minutes of play and for two teams that had given their all, it was a struggle.  Unfortunately the Vultures went down but were clearly not disgraced.  Maybe next season!
