Sale - Finally!

We had planned to visit Sale over a year ago but Covid changed all that.  Anyhow, we finally made it setting up camp at the Showgrounds Caravan Park.

It was a great location from which we could explore the town.  It has an historic Port that was once a major part of the Melbourne to Sydney transport link.
The old Pubs still serve excellent meals.
Then it was down to planning our few days away.

A Piece of History

We gave away some excess crockery today, but we did so in an historic box.

My father worked at Harts (38 Clarendon St South Melbourne) for most of his working life and being the resident industrial chemist, was responsible for the development and production of all of their products.  The main products were sheep dip and related sheep farming chemicals.  The old factory is long gone.
The old site (see red dot in the centre) was just south of Crown Casino and is now surrounded by high rise buildings.  It was interesting to see that a 5 gallon tin of the original Harts Immunol Sheep Dip (empty) is being offered for sale for $600.

Lachlan Maintains His Tradition

At the swimming sports, Lachlan again came home with a first in Freestyle and seconds in Backstroke and Breaststroke.  (He also had a first in one of the fun events.)

A First for James

With Covid all around, someone in the family had to be first so James took it upon himself to test it out for the rest of us.  After a vaccination the disease itself involves some sniffles and a lot of waiting around in isolation. James did have better things to do with his time!

Rearranging Rooms

Covid has meant it has been some time since we have been able to visit the Garnett household.  We did so for dinner last night.  The first task was to take in all the change that has occurred recently.  Cooper is now in his new room (previously the study).

Lachlan has moved to his room next to the stairs.
And the exercise room/gym is now set up.
The Pizza dinner was supplemented by Cooper who had slaved over a hot stove to produce a custard tart for us  all. If approval is measured by remains he did well.  Nothing was left!

Pat Takes Charge

Patrick has kicked off his Year 12.  He thought House Captain was a nice compromise, some responsibility but not too demanding for this important year.

Sophie Powers Home

Sophie took part in a rowing regatta on Saturday.  Her team had only recently formed and their start was a bit loose as they headed for the bank. However determination won out as they overcame the poor start to power home in first place by some distance.

A New Composter - The Eternal Search

We have tried a lot of composters in our time.  All have their deficiencies.  On Brett's recommendation we bought a barrel composter with geared rotating handle.  As far as flat packs go, this mob give Ikea a run for their money!

I finally managed to get it all together and it is composting away.  Let's hope this one is more successful than some of the others.  So far, so good.  If it doesn't work, I blame Brett.

Lachlan's Final Year

Lachlan is in Grade 6 this year, his final year and our last grandchild at Primary School.  He is only doing this to make us feel really old!

Jack On The Job

Just before school started, Jack took a few hours work removing incorrect labels from bottles.  The upside is that after a few hours of this he can't wait to get back to school!
