Street Colour

The morning walk has involved a lot more colour in the past few weeks as the warmer days encourage the reproductive urges of the local plants.

Goughs Gets Windows

Now the walls and roof are in place. the Lake House is having its windows installed.  Mark also has to sheet the place in a (red) waterproofing membrane before the external cladding is put in place.

He was lucky that the driver delivering the flooring timber and the wood for all the internal structure was able to get up to the house and deliver through the front window space.

Basketball

Both Cooper and Jack had wins yesterday.  It is still early in the season and grading is still going but everyone likes a win.  Cooper seems to be able to get down the court in three strides!

Lachlan's Year 7 Challenge Night

We attended Lachlan's Challenge Night to watch each Year 7 class perform a challenging task to an audience.  In each case the full class irrespective of musical background or training, prepared and performed a musical piece on stage.

Then all students performed a short play of their own devising in small groups. The plays all highlighted some social issue.
It was a great concept and well accepted and undertaken by all the students.

Fries With That?

Cooper has worked hard to get himself a job. Recently it all paid off as he secured a position at KFC.  I don't think he is the top chef yet but give him time!

Whitehorse Spring Festival

The annual Spring Festival returned to its usual location this year around the Council buildings.  This year it was huge and crowded with all sorts of clubs and community organisations having booths around the grounds.

As usual there was a huge variety of food on offer from every cultural group imaginable. The new theatre and presentation space (The Round) has finally been completed and was on show.
The external stage enabled performances in front of large crowds in the amphitheatre shaped grounds.  The cavernous foyer served food.
There was also enough room for some displays - in this case, the Model Boat Club was presenting some of their amazingly detailed models.

Now Walls and Roof

For a few days the weather looked promising at Goughs Bay so Mark was able to get up the wall panels.  He managed to find a local that was able to help so work has progressed much more rapidly.

The next phase involved adding parapets to all the walls to support (and hide) the roof.  Unfortunately this was when the weather turned nasty so it became a race to get panels and trusses in the air before the next downpour.
The rain meant water had to be continually removed to protect the wood paneling of the floor.
Finally the end parapets and panel bracing was put in place ready for the installation of the guttering,  insulation and iron of the roof.

Basketball Season Starts

Both Cooper and Jack have new teams this season and today they had their first run.  Cooper had been unwell all week so participation was a problem for him but he still scored a couple of times.  Being a team of friends, some have not played before so it will be interesting to see how they go during the season.

Jack is going back to basketball after a season of soccer.  The team had a convincing win on their first outing so they may get bumped up a level or two.  A highlight was this long bomb that Jack put through the middle of the basket.
Jack had a good game.

Rain!! No More Thanks.

After a relatively dry period, the predicted downpours arrived.  We had close to 60mm but it was heavier at Goughs Bay.  Mark had to lay protection over the newly placed floor panels.

The predicted rain certainly arrived with flooded rivers and inundated paddocks.
The locals were OK with it as Lake Eildon hit 100% capacity.
