Facing Adversity

Cooper's team were playing with only 5 this week and then they lost another just before the game so they had to play with only 4 against the other team's 7.  It did not seem to daunt them as they came home with a win 31 to 23 with some of the best teamwork we have seen.

Mid Year Concert

The school arranged a concert to show progress of the newest members of the music program.  As a member of the more advanced Concert Band, Lachlan went along to show how the juniors may progress in a year or so.

This afternoon we watched Holly and her team dominate the opposition Netball team nearly doubling their score.  They are currently top of the ladder and it shows.

Mothers' Day

We caught up with the family over the Mothers' Day period.  Brett, Cathy, Mitchell, Ebony and Holly came over with Lisa and Jack for afternoon tea. Cooper and Mark were in Queensland and Lachlan was home sick.

Adam and Kate were at Ocean Grove so Adam took Claire to Lunch on Monday.  No need for dinner that night!

Huge Aurora Activity

As we move from a period of low sunspot activity to a solar maximum there was a huge mass ejection of material from the sun last week, the biggest in 20 years, and it caused aurora activity all over the world.  It was visible in Melbourne if you could find dark skies like over the Bay.  As a kid, I remember seeing an aurora from our house in Glen Iris as light pollution levels were very low at that time.

Cooper Goes Fishing

For Cooper's birthday, Mark took him to Cairns to do some fishing on the reef.  They had a two day window hoping the weather would hold.

Luckily the weather cooperated and they headed out to the reef on Day 1.  Cooper started well.
Mark (Captain Chucky) retired from the competition early but Cooper continued to up his game catching the biggest fish of the day!

The Great Bread Challenge

I have always been interested in bread making and since getting rid of the bread maker, the challenge has been to do it conventionally.  The next attempt (after a little YouTubing) turned out better and I am happier with the taste.

The Final Chapter

Many years ago, my father obtained a couple of slabs of Queensland mahogany timber thinking he may do a little more wood turning in future.  It never happened and I inherited the timber.  It was way too valuable to destroy so I was relieved to come in contact with the brother of a friend who turned wood.  Of course he was overjoyed to receive these pieces that are now almost unobtainable and he turned a bowl for us in thanks.

Australian Museum of Photography

Since hearing there had been a Museum of Photography established in the Monash Council Library building I had been keen to take a look and we did so today.  We found the presentation underwhelming. Five artists were represented. A couple exhibited absolutely no creative or photographic talent. A couple employed the components of photography to present a creative canvas (not necessarily an image) and one had used a drone to photograph mining sites from above.  The 5 huge images were of more geometric than photographic interest and one would have been entirely sufficient.  My summary - 2/10 could be a lot better with more considered selection of artists and images.

School Photos

School photo season  has now passed and these are the Garnett offerings.

When Jack was over at our place after school we also had a chance to see the Year 12 Jacket.

Sophie's Week Night Basketball

Sophie has been playing on Monday nights for a while now and we have seen a few of the matches.  The team has been improving through the season but Monday could have turned out better for them.

Sophie played hard especially when she was called on to be the team's tall player. She has a special "look" when she comes off after a tough game.

Lachlan Tries Basketball

With both his brothers playing basketball, Lachlan decided to try his hand this season.  He joined a team of relatively new players and they are now in the grading period of the season.  We went to see his third game.  He plays No 24 for the Vermont Vultures.

Movement at The Lake House

With assistance from Cooper, Mark erected scaffolding on the east side to give access to the high windows.

This meant the window surrounds and the deck platform could be put in place.  There were a few trips with heavy trailer loads to get all the metal up to the block.
During the school holidays, additional workers helped install the window surrounds.
The battery is now in place together with some preliminary wiring.  The solar panels are keeping the power up so Mark now has a charging station and some light to work by.
Using a small excavator, Mark put the frame for the external deck in place.  Views acros the valley will be amazing.
