We headed to Kyneton for lunch. It turns out to be an attractive town with a real buzz of activity about it. The shops and buildings were in good shape and the price of local real estate was very healthy. We checked out a local produce store.
and walked through the well established Botanic Gardens on the banks of the Campaspie River.Lunch was in one of the repurposed older shopfronts and the food was excellent. The history of the area is reflected in the (still functioning) historic bluestone Railway Station. The water tank for the steam engines of the past is still in place on the left.
Our evening meal was at the Cleveland Winery near Lancefield. It was another surprising venue with a massive old house, a wedding venue and accommodation for 300 guests at the end of a rather innocuous dirt road.
