A couple of major attractions of the local area are the Boardwalk to the river mouth and the Urunga wetlands. The Boardwalk starts close to the Caravan Park and crosses some mangrove areas and leads to a lookout over the river mouth.
The wetlands are an area behind the coastal dunes reclaimed from a closed antimony mine that has become a refuge for waterbirds.
