River Communities

The Murray supports a whole range of different communities and commercial activities and our tour aimed to show not only the river but the range of activities it supports. At various points we would leave the boat and board a waiting coach to visit a point of interest or a local enterprise.

In this case we saw a winery that is in the forefront of developing sustainable environmental practices that was improving the soil and working to eliminate carp from the waterways.
On another occasion we visited the historic Overland Corner Hotel, one of Australia's oldest continuously licensed hotels that played a major role in the early history of the area.
The pub is as originally built of mud bricks with add on extensions and rooms here and there.  There have been a number of occasions where it was flooded up close to the eaves so the licencees have to be resilient
Then back on board for some more cruising and dinner.
