A long drive brought us up the coast to the Shark Bay area. We have set up camp in Denham so we could travel the short distance to Monkey Mia in the morning. On the journey we stopped off at Hamelin Pool to see the Stromatolites growing in the ocean at the end of the long protected inlet. These Stromatolites preferred deeper water and were viewed from a boardwalk.
Then we moved on to the amazing Shelly Beach. Billions of small (1 cm) cockles have left their shells here to form a huge beach. There is very little wave action in this protected inlet so the shells take a long time to break down so there are enormous expanses of shells.
