We stopped and dropped the tyre pressure for our venture into the Kalbarri National Park. For the first 20km there was nothing but flat, sandy, dry scrub.
But then we got to the Murchison River Gorge that cuts through the park and that is a whole other story! The river winds it's way through the park and the sides of the gorges are the ancient and spectacular red stone that characterises the area.
It is grand and magnificent scenery but it is a forbidding landscape. Everywhere there are warnings to make sure you have protection and water with you as temperatures regularly get to 50 degrees in the park. We visited a couple of locations including "Nature's Window" and then on to "Z Bend". Here we saw another bend in the river and the tracks of an ancient scorpion like animal that walked through the mud nearly 400 million years ago.
This is a sensational location and certainly one of the highlights of the trip so far.
