Stromatolites at Cervantes

Perfect weather and an ideal location for the kids meant that today was washing and maintenance day. Sheets, towels and jeans all went through the wash and were dry by mid afternoon. The jumping pillow occupied the boys so there were no complaints. After lunch we went to Cervantes where we were able to see living stromatolites growing in a highly saline lake. For an old biologist, it was exciting to see the oldest known life form on the planet, once only known from ancient fossils, actually growing in the natural environment (one of 3 places in the world).

Mind you, if you are looking for a lot of action, a Stromatolite colony is not the place to go as they are essentially a group of ancient bacteria living in an environmentally hostile environment.

Then it was back to the campsite so the boys could have some time in the beach playground.

After a tough day of relaxing, I have found that there are advantages in honing the intellect on questions of significance. This evening's question revolved around the merits of Mango Beer (brewed in Broome).
