Cooktown

Completing the Bloomfield Track we arrived in Cooktown.  The place had certainly changed in 44 years although some of the buildings were familiar.

The old buildings were being sold or in other cases being repurposed such as this substantial old bank that will soon open as a Coffee Shop and B&B accommodation.
We recognised the old Convent - Museum although the internals have been upgraded.
The old monuments were still in place but the foreshore area is undergoing a massive upgrade.
The Cemetery has been cleaned up and the rich history of the area reflected in the information boards.
The Botanic Gardens are small but well kept and signed and they have a cafe that served perhaps the best lunch we have had for a long time.
You now have to keep 3 - 5 metres from the water on the beaches as the crocodiles are plentiful, quick and hungry.
We took evening drinks at the lookout over the town. This was a new addition since our last visit.
