We hired a hybrid Rav 4 to take us to the Undara Lava tubes. It was a fascinating trip climbing out of the coastal plains to the highlands of the Atherton Tablelands. We left the rain and winds behind and had cool clear weather for the trip.
Our morning tea was at the historic Lake Barrine Teahouse in the crater of an extinct volcano.
At Undara we were accommodated in a surprisingly comfortable cabin.
The evening meal was eaten in an outdoor area covered by a huge canopy. The main hazard was the local kookaburras that delighted in raiding diners plates if they were not paying close attention to their meals.Breakfast was provided in a bush setting around an open fire - where you had the same kookaburra problems!
