Continuing north we covered some beautiful red dirt country. The weather had been unseasonally wet so there was plenty of green and a fair amount of water to be seen.
We stopped in Coen to see one of the traditional houses of the area.
We stopped at the Archer River Roadhouse for lunch and to see the huge earthworks associated with trying to make a bridge over the Archer River to keep the road open during the wet. It has been years in development and locals say it is too low as evidenced by recent flood levels. The road can be blocked for weeks.Waterholes along the way support a whole range of bird and animal life. The day finished at Weipa, a town owned by a private company that mines one of the best bauxite deposits in the world. The hotel was large and comfortable and, as usual, all meals were served undercover on an outside deck.
