The Bloomfield Track

Back in Cairns we dropped off the hire car, did some washing and prepared to join our tour group.

We were heading for Cooktown via the Bloomfield track.  We had missed seeing this in 1979 as a result of car problems.  The track is a world heritage area being the longest single stretch of continuous undisturbed tropical rainforest in the world - including Brazil!
We were even lucky enough to see a couple of wild Cassowarry that are critical to the health and maintenance of the rainforest.
The Bloomfield river runs through the area carrying huge amounts of water.
It's not a great river for swimming as we saw a number of huge crocodiles on the banks.
At the north end of the forest is the Lions Den Hotel that originally serviced a nearby mine but now it mines the tourists.  It is one of the longest continuously licensed pubs in Australia.
